Carson, CA - The FC DELCO Sting wrapped up a three game schedule at the NIKE US Friendlies hosted at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Opening the event, the Sting joined the US National teams at breakfast at the Home Depot Center watching the US Women win gold in the Olympics over Brazil. With the electric feeling in the air, they then took the field against the US U15 Womens National team. The Sting played an outstanding first half of soccer finally conceding a goal late in the half off a quick restart on a direct kick. The depth of the National Team took its toll on the Sting and they ended up losing the game in a final score of 5-0. The second game much better for the Sting as they dominated possession and created numerous chances however they made three critical mistakes which resulted in three goals losing to REAL Colorado 3-0. With a day off before the final game, things were looking good for the Sting with up and down play against San Diego Surf. An unfortunate Red Card with 10 minutes left in the first half forced the Sting to play a player down the rest of the game. With 10 seconds left in the half, the Surf got an odd man rush that left an unmarked striker alone on the back side to easily punch in the cross. The second half saw the Sting forced to make adjustments with 10 players however good team work and discipline frustrated the Surf and allowed to the Sting to create counter-attacks two of which resulted in goals from Meghan Toohey for a solid 2-1 win to finish the event.
